Hello every one!In the last tutorial we talked abouthow to convert this map over hereinto black and white. And today we're going to use the newpattern making tool introduced in illustrator CS6to create this little wave pattern on the lake you see here. So let's get started. As always you can download the files we are working with todayon my website. You'll find the link in the YouTube description. Let's get started with our map. Here we have this lake, and we want to remove this Grayand replace this with a little wave pattern. We can create those waves directly in this documentbut we're going to create a new oneand make our waves in the new documentbecause it's less distracting. Let's zoom in a little bit. And before we get started with our waveswe're going to activate the Grid Tool. You can find this under [View] -> [Show Grid]. And if you also under Viewactivate [Snap to Grid]it will help us to draw lines very symmetrically. If your grid doesn't look like this and is a little bit messed upyou can always go into your [Preferences]under [Guides & Grids]and you can change your grid settings in here. But for now this is fine. We're going to draw a basic tile patternof our waves with the pen tool. We click on one of those cornersand drag this to the half of one big grid cell. Let go. And we go down a little bit. Again we click and dragand go to the other halfand we do this one more time. Like this. This here is our basic wave pattern. You see right now, it still has a fill. So we going to remove the fill by clicking on this symbol. And now we have a basic line. We can hide the grid again[Hide Grid] and also we deactivate the [Snap to Grid]. Now if we think about duplicating this waveand we put them side by side, you see that we get sort of a wave pattern. Now we can use this basic lineto create the wave. We can do this in illustrator CS6under [Objects] -> [Pattern] -> [Make]. This is the all new pattern making tool. And it warns us here, that it will add the pattern that we're about to createalready to our swatches panel. We click just OK. And we see now it already appears in here. And with this panel here we can make a lot of settings. You also should notethat this one over here indicatesthat we're actually now in the pattern making process. And you can save a copy of your pattern at any timeand if you click on [Done], it will save the currentpattern you have generated in herein your swatches panel over here. Let's give this pattern a name, we call it "Wave". And we can start looking at the different options we have in here. The pattern tile tool will allow you to adjustthe tile size. Like this. But this actually will break our wave. We want to have it aligned perfectlyto the (next wave tile). So in this case we can also say[Size Tile to Art]. So this way we woun't mess anything up in here. Also you could specify the tile boxthis is the blue line hereIn this dialogue, but as we have sized our tile to our artwe can't change anything in here. Just keep in mind that you would have this option. Also if I move this thing aroundit woun't move it our of our tile. So what we can do now is, we can decrease the size of our waves a little bit. Like this. And I think this looks already quite nice. I would like to have them spaced out a little bit more. So we increase the vertical spacing. Like this. And also I will select 9x9 copies to have a broader viewof our lines it self. We can also increase the thickness of our line. If we select the line it selfwe canadd a little bit thickness, and also we can change the color as always. For now lets also deactivate the dimming that we see the actual color of our waves. One thing you might want to doif you can change the type of your tilefor example [Brick by Row], this will shift your rowsand you can set in here to what degree it should be shifted. So you see you can make very interesting patternsby using this one here. But for now grid should be perfectly fine. One other thing I just want to show you is, that you can also add more objects in here. So for example I add this little boxand this will also add the box to the whole pattern. You can then decide in here, in OverlapWhich one should be in front. However I don't want the box in here. And now I can go on [Done]. This will apply our changesto the pattern it self. If we now draw a boxwe can apply our pattern. And you see sometimes little gaps in here. but if you print you're documentyou wound see those any more, so if we zoom inyou see that the gaps are actually not really here. Now it's time to get our patternto our other document. To do this you have several options. You can select this one hereand just press [cmd]+[c] to copy itand paste it into your new document. But you could also export your whole swatch library. So you would go on [Save Swatches] and save it some were. And in our new document we can alsojust load other libraries in here. So this will save it as an illustrator documentthat you can just load from this interface. But for now it's really easy to just copy the shape it self just over to this document. And I will click on the lake and press [i]to get the eye dropper tool and I just click hereto copy this pattern. We can delete this one. And now if I want to change the actual pattern, if I want to edit it. It's also really easy, I can just double click on this oneand it brings me back into the pattern editing options. In this case for example I could decrease the size even further. Like this. Now on [Done]. And I see it's automatically applied to our pattern. If we now take a look at our lakewe see it doesn't look so nice, because the top waveis bumping into the border of our map. To change this, we can right click on our lake[Transform and Move. . . ]and in here we're going to deactivate [Transform Objects]and were going to move this down a little bit. And this should be fine. And there we have our nice lake. All right and this concludes our tutorial for today. Well done!High five! :DDDDOh you're to far away : ( . . . Ok, bye bye!
